This sandy York River beach combines swimming with nearby visitor services. County visitor guidance says to stay inside the swim buoys, watch for jellyfish and wear water shoes for sharp shells. Supervise children and check conditions rather than assuming lifeguard coverage.
Beach, picnic area and dog rules
The area-specific rules prohibit swimming at the separate Beach Picnic Area. Dogs are prohibited on the county-owned Yorktown Beach, although certain neighboring NPS-owned areas allow leashed dogs. Those permissions do not transfer to the swimming beach. County beach rules also prohibit alcohol, glass and grills; tents cannot remain overnight. Follow the signs for the specific area you use.
