Beach swimming at Deep Creek Lake State Park
Use the state park at 898 State Park Road, Swanton, rather than a private lakeside road or dock. This listing covers the park beaches, not unrestricted access around the lake. A precise beach-entry pin has not been independently checked.
Swimming permission and staffing
Maryland DNR permits swimming when the beach swim lines are installed. Check closures and staffing with the park at 301-387-5563 before travel. An open park gate does not establish that the swimming area is open or guarded.
Facilities for a beach day
The official day-use guide lists two sandy beaches, a shower house, changing facilities, picnic tables and grills, three playgrounds and four picnic shelters. The canoe and kayak launch is at the main beach parking lot; it is a separate activity from swimming. Day-use hours run from 8 a.m. to sunset.
Fees, pets and overnight plans
Admission is charged per person from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day and per vehicle outside that period, with different resident and nonresident rates. Check the park page for current charges. Camping and shelter reservations are separate.
Pet access elsewhere in the park does not make the swimming beach a dog-swimming area. DNR excludes pets from the sandy beach during the summer period and prohibits pet swimming from the beach, docks and fishing piers. Fishing is also excluded from the sandy swimming beach. Follow posted boundaries and leave private lakefront property undisturbed.
Getting There
Use 898 State Park Road, Swanton, MD 21561. Follow official signs to the designated beach.

Access Notes
Use the state-park day-use entrance, not private lakefront property. Check that swimming lines are installed and the beach is open.

Parking & Access
Confirm the entrance, parking arrangements, and legal access with the land manager. A map pin does not establish a public right of access. Follow posted routes and never block gates or driveways.
Regulations & Fees
Swimming is permitted at the park beaches when swim lines are installed. Follow current closures and posted boundaries. Public park access does not necessarily include permission to swim. Respect private property and posted restrictions.
Seasonality & Flow
Water conditions can change quickly. This listing does not provide a current safety or water-quality assessment. Check official alerts and avoid entering water when conditions or permission are uncertain.
What to Bring
Bring sturdy water shoes to protect your feet on rocks and slippery surfaces. A waterproof dry bag keeps your phone, keys, and valuables safe. Pack a quick-dry towel, sun protection, and drinking water - never drink from the natural water source.
