Swimming is prohibited at Cascade Lake. Do not enter the water.
We previously described this location as a swimming spot. That recommendation was incorrect. We have removed it from our swimming recommendations, directory results, and swimming maps. This page remains available to correct that information for anyone following an older link.
Do not treat older directions, photographs, or reports of people swimming as permission to enter the water. Check the managing authority's current notices and obey all posted access restrictions, including any park or trail closures.
Cascade Lake: check the current access before travel
This historic Maryland lake listing should not be used to plan public walk-in swimming. Coppermine's Cascade Park location page restricts the facility to private use and rentals. A booked pool activity is different from the lake visit described in older guides.
Why the old guide is misleading
The state tourism listing still describes lake swimming, slides and rafts. That older attraction description conflicts with the operator's current access rule. We no longer recommend arriving with an expectation of public admission, a petting zoo or an operating lake slide.
Plan an authorized activity instead
The operator's aquatic page advertises Cascade Park pool parties and lessons, while its rental page gives seasonal booking information. Ask what your booking includes, current cost, arrival time, supervision and accessibility. Do not assume a generic Coppermine membership applies to this location.
Contact and arrival
Coppermine lists 410-239-4708 and 2844 Snydersburg Road, Hampstead. The tourism page retains a different historic address and phone. Get approved entrance and parking instructions from the operator; the old lake map point is withheld rather than presented as a verified current entrance.
Historical notices and photos
A county bulletin from August 5, 2018 reported pumping water and planning a controlled dam breach. Its emergency road information is historical, not a current travel advisory. Nine saved photos were reviewed but not added: most depict old lake structures or identifiable personal portraits, and one pool portrait did not establish current facility identity. Those images would not help visitors understand today's booking-based access. Reviewed October 9, 2026.
